Christy Jo Hendricks, IBCLC, Doula, graduated in 1991 with an ambition to teach.  Her passion for education and the written word led her to instruct English for seventeen years.  She continued her dream to the position of administrator and was content in the business world, until she and her husband started a family and her desire switched from CEO to MOM.

Christy quickly realized her children were her priority and anyone could be hired to replace her in  any job—except for parenting, so she traded her lectern for a rocking chair.  Christy became passionate about helping women breastfeed after she gave birth to her third child and found out how difficult it was to obtain lactation help.  She had a desire to empower other women to have the birth and breastfeeding experiences they wanted. 

Her passion for teaching and breastfeeding merged when a Health Educator position became available at a local WIC office.  She jumped at the chance to serve her community by propagating the public health message, "Babies were born to breastfeed."

Christy became an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant, and on a mission to advocate for women, and to protect their birth experiences, Christy later pursued her Doula Certification.

Christy continues her work supporting and educating others about breastfeeding through the Grow Our Own LC curriculum she created.  It has been used to educate hundreds of women who aspire to grow in lactation knowledge.  She currently teaches lactation, attends births, facilitates lactation clinics, and advocates for women in Southern California, where she lives with her husband and three children.

The three main reasons I chose to breastfeed...and the man who encouraged me in my decision.
